ROAD
Coonamble and Gulargambone are located on the Castlereagh Highway, part of the GREAT INLAND WAY which is emerging as an alternate route to north Queensland from Victoria and South Australia due to its reputation as a ‘flat track’ for caravans, heavy vehicles and those seeking an easier route than the Newell Highway.
Coonamble has a unique advantage over most other NSW towns in that there are no restrictions on road train and B-double access on roads throughout the Shire. The sealing of the road from Coonamble through Pilliga to Wee Waa and Narrabri has opened up another road route.
RAIL AIR
The railway branch line from Dubbo to Coonamble is scheduled to undergo a significant upgrade increasing both loading capacity and speed of goods trains. The line currently transports grain freight.
Coonamble Shire Council owns a fully licensed aerodrome which they maintain to maximum CASA Standards. The airport is 3 kilometres from Coonamble Post Office. The aerodrome is very user-friendly as the surrounding terrain is relatively flat with no obstacles to create turbulence and because Coonamble is a low air traffic area. The aerodrome has never been taken out of service due to floods and is trafficable in all weather.
